THERE were smiles all around at the municipal offices in Landdrost Street as even AbaQulusi mayor, Jerry Sibiya stood by for the introduction of the municipality’s newest addition, a Dino 180T Mobile Cherry Picker.

“It is the first of its kind in KwaZulu Natal,” beams Mayor Sibiya proudly, as he steps out of the platform of the two ton machine, where merely minutes before he was hoisted high into the air alongside Thembinkosi Mbatha, CEO of Shandu’s Technical Services, the company responsible for bringing this new technology to AbaQulusi.

“It is well-known that we have been plagued with a shortage of equipment to carry out our duties and responsibilities effectively as the municipality,” states Mayor Sibiya. “The opportunity to utilise this type of machinery in AbaQulusi is not only groundbreaking, but it is a more economical solution for the town.”

The Dino 180T Mobile Cherry Picker is currently on hire from Shandu’s Technical Services, with an option to purchase at a later stage. However, if this economical solution to several of AbaQulusi’s equipment woes delivers on its promise, the future may see more of these machines being purchased.
