At both the College and Prep soccer has become a popular third team sport for girls. The College had a very successful year winning the Midlands Girls’ A Soccer League.
The 1st team Soccer Girls have had an outstanding season. It all started with a pre-season tour to the South Coast where the girls played against Kingsway and Amanzimtoti drawing both games, the next day they played against Creston winning 3-0.
The season started well with the girls beating The Wykeham Collegiate 3-1, they followed this up with a 6-2 win over St Anne’s. The away win against Wembley was important after only a 1-0 half-time score the game finished as 6-2, a wonderful flowing second half of football.
The penultimate game was against Grace College, when the Treverton girls amassed an 8-0 win setting up the final game where they could win the league. The Carter game was exciting to the end with late goals deciding the final score, Treverton winning the game 3-0 and thus convincingly winning the Midlands Girls Soccer A League!
Congratulations to the U15 team who also won all of their games in the league and won their section of the Junior A League.
Coach Jason Hyam stated that: “Over and above the exceptional league performance, the girls individual performances have been outstanding. Tess Miles, Londeka Mchunu, Tessa Rouillard, Sne Gumede and Megan Blades made the Midlands U19 team, Emily Webster, Holly McCarthy and Megan Weavill made the Midlands U16 team, and Brooke Cunha-Johnston, Danielle Warren, Thabi Mathe, Luyando Mwiinga, Banyana Ebineng, Nqobile Mhlanga , Daina Pieterse, Niamh Delaney, Lethu Matiwane and Lutho Dabula made the U14 Midlands team.
Bophelo Seoe was selected for the KwaZulu-Natal U14 team, and Elizabeth Pappas was selected for the U19 KwaZulu-Natal team. At the Prep girls’ soccer is being fielded at all the age groups and the U13 girls, many who have only started playing this year have enjoyed a measure of success and gained a great deal of experience. They played eight matches and won four and lost four. There is also an U13B team, who played a limited number of matches.”
Prep Teacher and Coach Andy Dijkstra says: “It has been a lot of fun coaching the girls and I look forward to monitoring their progress as some of them move on to play in the College leagues next year”.
