Phumelelani Primary School in Rosedale won the Provincial Readers Cup hosted in Durban on September 12.

The Readers Cup competition is sponsored by ELITS in the Education Department in Uthukela District.

The focus is mainly on motivating and developing the reading skill among learners in the Intermediate Phase, particularly grade six.

The learners did extensive reading and were well equipped with summary writing skills.

They also had to tell a story to the public.

More attention is paid on short stories and novels, the learners read 12 books.

They received a trophy, bags, dictionaries and certificates.

The school would like to thank the district for this initiative as well as the Language educators for taking this seriously and considering taking the school to greater heights.
