Treverton music students perform at best of the eisteddfod concert

Treverton College’s Music Department has experienced exceptional growth in the last two years, with more students taking music lessons.

The traditional piano, recorder, guitar and vocal lessons have expanded to a range of new musical instruments including cello, flute and drums.

The students perform for their peers at informal college concerts as well as on formal occasions.

They are all encouraged to take part in the annual eisteddfod held in Pietermaritzburg.

A large number of students entered this year, and six achieved A+ symbols, while another seven students: Nico Britz and Caira Claassen (vocal), Mpumelelo Ngobese and Tamsyn Edgcumbe (drums), Chelsey Laurent (recorder), Julia Guthrie (vocal) and Darren Usher-Jones (piano) all received an A symbol and six students were awarded an A-.

There were also students who achieved a B symbol for a variety of instrumental and vocal performances.

The six College learners who achieved an A+ symbol were invited to perform at the prestigious Best of the Eisteddfod concert in the Tatham Gallery in Pietermaritzburg. The students who performed at the concert were Reitumetsi Magongoa, Emily Stein, Sylvia Wu and Nthuthuko Zondo.

Tessa Vujovic was also invited but was unable to participate.

A group of supporters went with to listen to their friends play and sing in the lovely setting the spectacular Victorian building.
