Police officer threatens security guard with gun
Police officer charged for pointing a firearm at a security guard at the Scott Street Mall.
A charge was opened against a police officer for pointing a firearm in public.
Scott Street Mall security guard, Mduduzi Mfusi clamped the wheel of a vehicle parked in a loading zone last Wednesday.
The owner of the vehicle was reportedly upset upon returning to a clamped vehicle, and told the guard he was a police officer while showing his badge for verification.
According to reports, the guard refused to unclamp the vehicle because the police officer was travelling by private vehicle.
The guard alleged the officer pulled his firearm and pointed it to his forehead, threatening to shoot him if he did not unclamp the wheel.
Mall management stepped in and confirmed the officer was very aggressive when questioned.
Police were contacted and a case for pointing a firearm in public opened against the officer.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Simon Luthuli said the police station does not condone police officers to behave like that in public.
He ensured the situation would be looked into, as police officers were expected to behave professionally at all times.
