Michaelis School under the magnifying glass

OCTOBER 9 and 10, Mr Ben Brooks visited our school to conduct the Independent Quality Assurance Agency’s second evaluation.
This visit was the conclusion to months of surveys and research. Mr Brooks spent his time walking about the school, sitting in on lessons and conducting focus group discussions with learners and teachers.
The evaluation was a great success and Mr Brooks was very pleased with everything that he observed during his two day visit. As daunting as these evaluations seem in the early stages, they are extremely beneficial and a necessary process for schools wanting to improve and go boldly into the future! We would like to thank Mr Brooks and IQAA for making this evaluation such a worthwhile and painless process.
Sunflower Fund Bandana Day: “Buy a bandana and share a little happiness”, this was the Sunflower Fund’s slogan for Bandana Day 2013. We at Michaelis most certainly managed to share some happiness on Friday, as all the learners and teachers came to school sporting colourful bandanas! These bandanas’ were purchased and worn to show support for Leukaemia sufferers as well as people with rare blood disorders. Without financial support the work of the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) would come to a complete standstill and bone marrow transplantation would no longer be a treatment option in South Africa.
The Sunflower Fund’s core purpose is to educate, recruit and raise funds to build, as well as sustain, an effective SABMR. It was a vibrant and happy sight to see our entire school wearing colourful bandanas. Well done to all the learners for supporting this very worthwhile cause.
Cricket: We played our last match for this season against NRS and lost by 38 runs. The best batsman was Cameron Spangenberg who scored 39 runs, and Cameron Aitken was the best bowler who took 2 wickets for only 14 runs. Michaelis thanks all the schools that took part in the cricket league for the positive manner in which the games were played.
