The grade 2 pupils at Hamilton Preparatory School were given a warm welcome by the staff at the post office this week. The grade 2’s are currently learning about various forms of communication, so they wrote postcards and letters and took them to the post office to find out what they need to do to post a letter.
They found that there are various ways of posting a letter, depending on how fast you want it to reach its destination. They bought their stamps and then went excitedly to post the letters they had worked so hard on. They were also shown how mail is sorted and how the postboxes and private mailbags work.
They were told what they needed in order to collect a parcel and what to do if they received mail that had been incorrectly delivered to them. The children all had a great time and came away very well informed on the workings of a post office and how the people working there serve their community. The school would like to thank all the post office staff for taking the time to explain so much to the children in such a child-friendly manner.
