Treverton College’s success at Toastmasters Competition

They were competing against candidates from over 40 other schools in the province. Treverton’s representatives were; Jonathan Ogden Samantha Shawe and Kyle Johnstone and all three were placed in one of the three categories.

Treverton College senior pupils have been involved in the Toastmaster Course for two years.

Initially they attend the course, learn the skills, and practise this in the class.

Once the course is completed, the students arrange a “graduation” dinner at the school at which the prize winners in each section are announced.

These winners then go forward to compete at Inter-school level in KwaZulu-Natal.

Treverton sent three students to the second round of the Toastmasters International Competition held in Durban early in October.

They were competing against candidates from over 40 other schools in the province. Treverton’s representatives were; Jonathan Ogden Samantha Shawe and Kyle Johnstone and all three were placed in one of the three categories, with Samantha Shawe achieving a double triumph by being placed first and third in the respective categories.

They will all go forward to the third and final round of the KZN competition to be held on November 23, 2013, competing against the top Toastmaster participants in the province.

The final results were Prepared Speech: first place: Jonathan Ogden and third place: Samantha Shawe.

Impromptu Speech: second place: Kyle Johnstone and Evaluations: first place: Samantha Shawe.
