Ladysmith police have recently noticed an increase in robbery cases, particularly in the area of Lyell, Queen, Alexander and Forbes Street. These robberies involve between two and three suspects who approach an individual seated in a vehicle or as they climb out of their vehicle. They pull out knives and rob the driver of all their valuables.
Police have increased crime prevention activities in these areas and resultantly arrested two people. The suspects, aged 28 and 30, were arrested for their involvement in robbing a 46-year-old who was seated in his vehicle in Forbes Street last Saturday at around midday.

Survey your surroundings after parking and before switching off your vehicle. Before you climb out of your car, be attentive to what is going on around you. Be wary of people loitering about. If you notice suspicious behaviour in the vicinity, drive off and report it to the police immediately. Keep your windows closed when parking your vehicle, while seated in the vehicle and upon leaving again. Be vigilant when returning to your vehicle.
