The grade 3s at Hamilton Preparatory School recently went on an outing to the Talana Museum in Dundee to explore the past.
The pupils were amazed to see the advancements that have been made in the last 100 years in the fields of medicine, banking and photography, to name but a few. They were impressed by the different glass designs and astonished that coal mine workers had to work in such dark, narrow tunnels.
They relished the freedom the museum offered them in being able to run about in the open spaces, exploring. The Zulu huts provided a wonderfully cool place to rest for a while in the heat of the day, and here they learnt about the famous Zulu leader Shaka Zulu. The old coal train added to the charm of the day. The children were astounded by the neat dining room that is still respectable even by today’s standards.
They left for home feeling exhausted but satisfied that they had learnt more about the past.
The school would like to commend Talana Museum for the fine job they have done in preserving our history and the fine upkeep of their grounds. A visit to this museum is an affordable experience everyone should make use of!
