A suspected murderer was killed after a shoot-out with police in the Nkwezela Section in Wembezi on Sunday, November 24.
According to spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela, Wembezi police were called to the scene of a shooting at about 4.30pm.
When they arrived on scene, a man, whose name has not been disclosed, was dead.
Police then pursued the two suspects.
“A quick response by the Wembezi SAPS resulted in a chase, during which police had a confrontation with the suspects who started firing in the direction of police.
The police returned fire in self-defence and one of the suspects was fatally wounded and the other was apprehended,” explained Captain Sokhela.
Two unlicensed firearms were found in the suspects’ possession, which police believe were used in the killing. “The motive is not known but it is suspected to be politically-motivated. The arrested suspect will be appearing in the Estcourt Magistrates Court within 48 hours. The case is being investigated by the Wembezi Detectives,” concluded the captain.
