Nelson Mandela died last night. In some ways, because we must carry on living, his passing brings to an end a chapter in the history of South Africa. In some ways, his passing leaves us very much alone, like an orphaned child, who has to carry on.
It is up to us now to make sure his legacy does not die, is not tainted. If we truly value Nelson Mandela and his life and what he stands for, we are obliged in his memory to be the best we can be, as individuals, as communities, as a nation. Otherwise, how ever great his life, it will have been for nothing.
