A good way to end the term and the year is with a class outing and Treverton’s Grade three class together with their teacher Mrs Cindy Elliott visited the Entabeni Education centre in the Kamberg.
In addition to a day out of the classroom and packed special lunches, there was also an element of education attached to their visit, as they went to observe and learn about cranes, including South Africa’s national bird the Blue Crane.
Guided by Nic Shaw the young learners were introduced to the Blue Crane, the Crown Crane and the Wattled Crane and learnt about each species characteristics.
They also met crane that had been hatched six-weeks ago and was named Trinity. They were also able to observe first-hand how it was fed with the crane puppet head and exercised daily by a human wearing the crane costume. Only purring noises are made to ensure that it does not imprint on humans. In this way, once grown up, it will hopefully be returned to the wild. The day ended with a picnic at Forest Lodge.
