Treverton’s Equestrian Centre has been very active this year, since Daneen Schallen assumed the post as Head of the centre.

The number of riders has increased, and the students have participated in provincial and national shows as well as improving their equestrian skills. They finished their competitive year, taking part in their annual Equitation Show with the Drakensberg Pony Club and their final event was a Pony Club Camp.

Treverton has also acquired more ponies this year, upgraded their show jumping equipment and building has begun on a new cross-country course. In 2014, Treverton will be hosting the Qualifier 2 SANESA Core League as well as two of the SANESA eventing shows. Further, there will be some graded show jumping shows and training shows.

Daneen and her assistant Samantha Habermann have been very impressed by the progress of the riders this year and a prize giving was held to reward students for different levels ofskill and progress.

At the College: The Best Rider: Laura Allardyce, Most Improved Rider: Danel Goosen, Best Horsemanship: Samantha Schallen, Best Ambassador: Roxanne Seymour, Extreme Perseverance: Emily Yeo.

At the Prep: Best Rider: Jessica George, Most Improved Rider: Erin Bewley, Best Horsemanship: Taia Jurgens, Best Ambassador: Emma Anderson, Extreme Perseverance: Daniella Dell.

Certificates for Dedication to the Equestrian Centre and riding: Lisa Sharpe, Megan Odell and Courtney Webster.

Certificate for Enthusiasm: Hannah Rees and Victoria Rees.

Stable Award: This is awarded to two horses that have done the best at shows over the year. Roxanne Seymour and Regimental Tattoo on 81 points for achievements at SANESA and Dargle. Emily Yeo and Kush on 59 points for achievements at Eventing, Sanesa and Dargle.

Though the riders spend considerable time improving their skills, some afternoons are scheduled for horse and rider to enjoy each other’s company, take rides around the school’s magnificent and spacious campus and take a ride/swim in the College dam.
