
Treverton Prep and College held their final prize giving ceremonies at the end of the term. This year the College Prize Giving took on a new format, when prizes were awarded to Grade eight to 11 and the prefects for 2014 were announced.
A senior prize giving for matric students was held in October and it enabled the students to leave once they had completed their examinations.
At the Prep, prizes were awarded to learners from the foundation phase to the Grade sevens. The two top prizewinners in Grade seven were Bridget Stone and Brandon Palmer. Brandon received the Bhayat Trophy for All Round Achievement. The criteria for this award is for a pupil who has attained a high achievement in all areas of academics, sport and cultural activities having attained a merit award for academics, represented KZN Inland at hockey and participated in the school’s cultural pursuits.
The Bhayat Trophy for Dux was awarded to Bridget Stone. Bridget fulfilled the requirements having an outstanding academic record throughout the year, maintaining an aggregate of over 80 percent in all her subjects, including a year mark of 96 percent for Maths.
She also won the subject prizes for Music, English, Afrikaans, Bilingualism and Art.
At the College, the learner audience waited in anticipation for the announcement of the prefects.
Don Paterson an all-round sportsman and academic is the 2014 Headboy and Maritia Louw an accomplished sportswoman is Headgirl, Marita was also appointed as Head of Trew House. The other school prefects for 2014 are: Tim Blaker, Sne Gumede, Darren Garlick, Anja Kanzler, Lungani Gumede, Jordan Lecler, Khalipha Ngwenya, Carley Sclanders, Jonathan Ogden, Samantha Shawe, Tristan Pickering, Tamryn Tedder, Luke Richardson, Andile Tshuma, Andrew Tilbury, Ayanda Tshuma and Nondumisa Zuma. The guest speaker was Mr Owen Buchanan, Deputy Headmaster: Academics who leaves Treverton at the end of the year, to take up a post at Bulembu Ministries in Swaziland. Mr Buchannan has been on the Treverton College staff for 29 years.
