WHEN a young man is brutally and senselessly murdered for nothing more than a cellphone, it brings into question the absolute lack of morality that exists within certain sectors of the human race.

On December 21 of last year, the life of Ben Van Der Westhuizen was tragically taken by a gang of depraved miscreants.

According to a source, Ben, who was a well known mechanic in Vryheid, had repaired a motorcycle and was testing it in a field when the murder took place. This was the last time Ben was seen alive.

The cause of death, according to police, was head trauma which it appears may have been caused by a blow to the back of the head with a blunt object.

Ben's lifeless body was discovered in a field near the Farmers' Hall, where police believe it may have been dumped by the perpetrators.
