The primary schoolboy cricket season kicked off with a bang last Wednesday, as Glencoe Primary’s U/11 team faced off against a fierce Uelzen side. The game was won in the dying minutes as Uelzen’s last two batsmen narrowly failed to reach Glencoe Primary’s 98 runs, losing by just six runs. Uelzen’s final score was 92 runs after the final over.
Griffiths proved to be an indispensable all-rounder in the Glencoe Primary ranks, as he scored the most runs as well as taking out the most batsmen. Uelzen will have their chance for revenge, as the two sides are to face off again later on in the year.
The U/13 boys had their match against Dundee Junior Secondary. Glencoe Primary bowled first and took all Uelzen’s wickets for only 26 runs. Kemeshan, Stiaan and Danté took two wickets. Glencoe Primary’s fielding was sharp and managed to stop many runs. Glencoe Primary overtook Uelzen’s score in the fifth over with one wicket down. Kemeshan top-scored with 15 runs, with Stiaan on 10 not out. Well done boys.
Prefect Camp in the mountains

We had a wonderful time at White Mountain Lodge on the weekend of February 1. When we got there, we went and took our luggage to our rooms. We were welcomed with open arms by our guides and then divided into two groups. Our team went for raft building and the other team went for orientation activities. The showers were very welcome. That night we were blindfolded and had to guide each other through an obstacle course. This was at night and it was raining. Our guide’s name was Maxine and she taught us a lot about ourselves. We had many fun activities with Max and Tobie but the highlight was a foefie slide over a gorge. Some prefects were very scared but we all went over with some encouragement. ‘Proper planning prevents poor performance’ was one of the things that they taught us and I think we can all use it. Thank you to the teachers and Oom Gert for making this possible for us.
