Young policeman murdered

The suspects demanded the pair to hand over their cellphones and an argument broke out.

FAMILY members, friends and collegues gathered at the SAPS Dog Unit to bid their final farewells to Lindani Xaba, a young trainee policeman who was brutally murdered on Sunday, February 2.

According to the local SAPS the 29 year old had been walking with a female companion when they were approached by two suspects at the corner of High and Hlobane Streets.

It is alleged that the suspects demanded the pair to hand over their cellphones and an argument is said to have broken out. The suspects then proceeded to stab Lindani before fleeing the scene with his cellphone.

The lady who was with him is said to have been able to escape and called the police immediately.

On arrival, the police found the young man was had unfortunately suffered severe stab wounds on his chest and upper right arm and had passed away on scene.

Two arrests have been made by and both suspects have been charged with homicide. One of the suspects is said to be a 16 year old who when questioned admitted to not being able to remember anything regarding the incident as he had been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
