The Islamic Educational Centre (IEC) once again showed its mettle in athletics when it took on the top guns and excelled.
The IEC has a small school population, but the quality and achievement of its learners is laudable.
Taking a small team of 10 athletes to the Klip River Schools Sports Association (KRSSA), uThukela District and Northern KwaZulu-Natal, three of the athletes have been invited to take part in the KwaZulu-Natal meet at Kings Park Stadium.
Raees Fakir came first in shot putt from ward to regional level and second in long jump in the regional competition; Waseem Ballim came first in high jump at KRRSA level and second at regional level; and Ismail Mbele won the javelin in his age group at ward, district and regional level.
This is the first time the school has participated in USSASA competitions.
