Hamilton Preparatory School’s Grade 4 class had an enjoyable outing to Doug MacMaster’s Blockhouse Museum on his farm ‘Heron Mere’.
The children have been learning about their local history and were thrilled to see the many artefacts that Mr MacMaster has collected since he was their age from his local environment. They viewed artefacts from both the Anglo-Boer War and the Anglo-Zulu War.
Some of the everyday items from back then sparked interest and an appreciation for how life has changed.
They were also treated to a performance of well-known tunes on the bagpipes and an interesting tour of Mrs MacMaster’s garden, including a good viewing of an enormous hamerkop’s nest.
