Michaelis pupils take part in Mudman event

ON SATURDAY, March 1, Michaelis hosted the annual Interschool Athletics Meeting between the three German Schools. The weather played along and presented us with a beautiful day. All the athletes taking part gave it their all and tried their best. The Mini Victor and Victrix Ludorum were Holger Gevers from Lüneburg and Stefanie Maritz from Wittenberg. The Junior Victor and Victrix Ludorum trophies were taken home by Matthias Gevers from Lüneburg and Stefanie Maritz from Wittenberg. The last trophies to be handed over were the Senior Victor and Victrix Ludorum and they went to Wessel Maritz from Wittenberg and Michelle Meier from Lüneburg. Congratulations go out, not only to our trophy and medal winners, but to every child that took part in the heat on Saturday, we are so proud of your efforts! We would like to thank all the moms who worked so hard and kept our bellies full and our thirsts quenched. Your “behind the scenes” work doesn’t go unnoticed. Many thanks to all the parents who attended and assisted us all day long, enabling this day to be a success. Thank you to Pionier High School for the use of your beautiful facilities and to Lüneburg and Wittenberg for travelling to Vryheid and enjoying this day with us. Mudman: In the early hours of Sunday morning, some of our dedicated learners, together with their coach and parents, travelled to the Albert Falls Dam to partake in yet another Mudman Event. Kirsten Hellberg, Daniela Vonkeman and Megan de Beer came fourth overall in the half distance triathlon. Catiá Marques, Chloé Henstock and Rachel Bourn came seventh overall and Bianca Hellberg, Mia Olivier and Kayla Olivier came ninth. Fantastic girls, we are proud of you! You all did so well, especially considering that there was no junior category and you were competing against competitors older than you. Tennis: Leah Vonkeman and Jaco Keeve, who had previously been chosen for the NKZN Tennis Team, took part in a tennis tournament in Pietermaritzburg this last weekend. They played in pool B and their team came second, enabling the two to bring home silver medals. Great job Leah and Jaco.
