The town’s water supply sabotaged

STRIKING municipal workers will have lost any public sympathy this morning. Apart from numerous acts of vandalism around town, they have sabotaged the town’s water supply. Up on Vryheid Hill where the town’s water reservoirs are located, strikers have smashed the main pipe that brings water from the Klipfontein and Bloemveld purification plants to the reservoir from which the water is gravity-fed to Vryheid, Bhekuzulu and Lakeside. Not content with that, they also smashed the main downpipe for Vryheid town. So, no water is coming in, and no water can go out. It is not known when the pipe will be repaired nor how long it will be before the supply will be restored.
