SATURDAY night, March 8, turned out to be an appallingly traumatic night for a man who was found in the early hours of Sunday morning alongside the dirt road which leads to the airfield.
It is alleged that the man, who is believed to be between 25 and 35 years old, was the victim of a robbery.
The circumstances of this incident seem far too aggressive to be just a mere case of robbery, however, as the victim was brutally and indecently assaulted by his attackers.
When the man was discovered the following morning, his hands had been badly beaten and a wooden 2×2 stake had been forcefully inserted into his rectum, partially impaling him. EMRS was contacted to attend to the patient, as no ambulances were available to respond to the case at that time.
Although the attack was of a severely brutal nature and the victim’s injuries were extensive, he was responsive and fully aware of his surroundings, according to paramedics at the scene.
The victim was transported by air to a specialist in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday afternoon, as surgery would be required to remove the wooden stake.
