Jokes aside, it was frank talk at Estcourt High School on Wednesday.
Road safety, sugar daddies and HIV/Aids took centre stage when traffic officer Nafisa Gunkel visited the school at 10.45am.
As part of the local traffic department’s initiative to promote education and awareness, Ms Gunkel has been visiting primary and secondary schools in the past months, sometimes accompanied by police officers.
On Wednesday she used a personal example of her son dying in an accident to stress the point of being alert and safe on the roads.
She added that the funerals of the four young boys who were tragically killed in an accident last Sunday, was also an example of young lives being lost on the road.
After singing Whitney Houston’s I Believe The Children Are Our Future, a stern word of advice given to female learners who are seen in school uniform with taxi drivers. “Girls, please stop! If I see you driving around with the taxi drivers, you will be arrested. Girls should have more pride,” she said. In conclusion, there was also advice for the boys.
“Do not become Ben 10s, respect your body, your parents, your name and your school. Do not get caught in these activities. There is a time and place for all of that,” Ms Gunkel said. Mr K Naidoo from EHS thanked Ms Gunkel and said that the school appreciated her talk.
