Foreign national arrested for possession of cocaine

Man arrested with rock cocaine after police find drugs abandoned in Forbes Street

Police recovered drugs and arrested a foreign national last week after following up on information received.

On Wednesday morning, Ladysmith K9 Unit members found drugs in Forbes Street that had been abandoned. The drugs consisted of 25 mandrax tablets and 30 straws (whoonga). The street value of the seized drugs is about R3000.

The K9 Unit were then joined by the Ladysmith Cluster Trio Task Team and continued with follow-up investigations. This resulted in the arrest of a foreign national in the same area, who was found to be in possession of five pieces of rock cocaine. The recovered cocaine is also valued at around R3000. The man could not produce any documentation and is believed to be here illegally.

He is being charged for possession of cocaine.
