Happenings in a Harding Street alleyway on Friday night suggest there is truth to the phrase ‘screaming bloody murder’.
A few residents at Rina Hof flats said they heard the repeated screams of a man on Friday night, which coupled with two pools of blood, have made for something of a crime mystery.
Evidence shows someone was seriously injured on Friday, although it is there the trail goes cold.
Residents said the alleyway was a frequent ‘meeting place’ for prostitutes and their clients from nearby watering holes, who often left behind used condoms and other filth.
Perhaps this was the reason no calls were made to the SAPS after the screams were heard.
“No case was opened with the SAPS,” said SAPS cluster spokesman, Captain Shooz Magudulela.
A resident who heard the screams in the early hours of the morning, said there were often fights in the alleyway between patrons of a nearby tavern, and prostitution was rife.
He admitted he had not contacted the SAPS after hearing the screams.
The resident said when he was leaving the complex on Saturday morning, a woman who had noticed the gory scene, stopped him and requested he take a look.
“It looks like a person was stabbed. With that amount of blood, the person was seriously hurt.”
An elderly resident at the complex said although she had not heard the screaming herself, the discovery of copious amounts of blood on the walls and floor had chilled her to the core.
“I was on my way out when another resident asked me to come with her to look at the blood.”
The elderly resident said her first assumption was someone had been violently raped, owing to two used condoms lying within the congealing blood pools.
Shortly thereafter, she added, the blood was washed away with chemically treated water.
Businesses in the area said they were constantly cleaning in front of their stores after weekends, owing to the puddles of urine and used condoms littering the pavement.
Many stated the problems stemmed from the same tavern identified by residents.
Asked for his comments on the allegations made and if he knew anything of the bloody scene on Harding Street, the tavern owner immediately denied knowledge of any illegal activities.
At the time of going to print, no further information on the mystery had been unearthed.
