Uncertain of syndicate activity: SAPS

Investigations had to be fully complete before the possibility of syndicates could be considered.

SAPS sources can not confirm a syndicate is responsible for the armed robbery spate in Newcastle.

Cluster spokesman, Captain Shooz Magudulela said there were variations in the modus operandi of the armed robberies, which targeted businesses, including Newcastle Golf Club.
Experienced members could easily tell there were differences, he added.

The Newcastle Golf Club, a Murchison Street store and at least two other businesses were targeted last week by what is now said to be different groups of armed criminals.
No further information relating to these cases came to light at the time of going to press.

However, Captain Magudulela explained another group of criminals responsible for the ceiling-style business robberies had been apprehended, as well as an accomplice linked to these crimes.
He added investigations had to be fully complete before the possibility of syndicates could be considered.

“The evidence is sent off to Pretoria and even Amanzimtoti first, so it needs to be investigated fully before we can say.”
