A Steadville resident is in hot water after lying to police and staging a housebreaking to teach his sister a lesson.
The 21-year-old reported a case of housebreaking to police on Wednesday, April 16. He alleged that he arrived at the homestead in Shayamoya, Steadville, to find the house broken into and property belonging to his sister missing.
When interviewed by Ladysmith detectives, the man’s version of events did not ring true. Police continued to question him and while carefully inspecting the premises for evidence, the man admitted that he had lied to them. He had, in fact, had an argument with his sister and wanted to teach her a lesson, so he staged the housebreaking and theft.
The man was arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice. He appeared briefly in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, April 22, where he was released on R1000 bail. His case was remanded to May 5.
