A bail of R1 000 each was granted to the Sergeant and three constables from Nhlanhleni (Pomeroy) police station on Tuesday, April 22. They are facing charges of being in possession of dagga.
The accused were arrested on the Dundee/Helpmekaar road on the night of April 14 by the Dundee police, after receiving a call from community members alerting them of a police van transporting dagga from Nhlanhleni, heading to Dundee. Dagga weighing 48,15kg was found in the police van that the accused were travelling in.
It is alleged that the police had earlier confiscated the dagga from a woman in the Pomeroy area, and instead of booking it in they allegedly drove to Dundee with the intention to sell it. The case was remanded to May 16 for further investigation.
