Burglar flees after alarm notifies vigilant neighbours

While impressed with the quick response of their neighbours and the police, the family urged the community to be vigilant.

A brazen burglar fled from the scene of his crime when he was interrupted by an alarm system and vigilant neighbours.

Last Wednesday afternoon shortly after 1pm, a house in Carrington Street was broken into.

According to the home owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, she had received a phone call from her neighbours at 1.10pm.

“I rushed home immediately and contacted the police, who got to my house in five minutes.”

Fortunately, it seemed nothing had been stolen.

“A window was broken and someone must have got into the house because the alarm went off. My neighbour and his son rushed over, but the person escaped,” said the home owner.

She said earlier that morning when leaving her house, she saw a man wearing a yellow and black jacket, sitting at the side of the road. She speculated he might have been involved somehow. She added it was not the first time the house had been targeted by criminals.

“Last week we noticed some things, such as steel and a geyser, missing out of the backyard,” said the home owner’s daughter-in-law.

“Also, about two months ago, my husband saw someone in the backyard.”

While impressed with the quick response of their neighbours and the police, the family urged the community to be vigilant.

“People should try to be more alert about suspicious people in their area,” concluded the home owner’s daughter-in-law.
