The informal dumping site just off Kirkland Street will be levelled, insider sources revealed last week.
Owing to the persistence of residents to utilise the open area of land near the Masonic Lodge for the discarding of refuse, it was reportedly decided to bulldoze the dump site altogether.
This, it was explained, will serve as a barrier when flood season rages at the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, ‘no dumping’ signs are abundant now that the local ward councillor has intervened, with residents facing a R750 fine if caught dumping there.
Cllr Tanya de Jager thanked God her efforts had reaped the rewards.
Commenting how residents of Paradise had been clamouring for assistance with regard the illegal dump site, Cllr de Jager personally visited the scene last week, to point a scandalised finger at the culprits.
“Today was my lucky day when I caught two vehicles dumping at this site in broad daylight.”
Cllr de Jager said prior to catching offenders in the act last week, she had been present for a meeting with the Community Services department to address the matter.
In her words, she hoped the pleas of both herself and residents would be heard now.
“The elections are over and we are back in business to serve our community.”
Previously, when the matter was raised through means of the media, the suggestions relayed to the municipality included the dredging of the Jordan River and the terracing of the area.
To date, no feedback on these proposals was given by municipal authorities.
