More pupils from Voortrekker Hoërskool in Pietermaritzburg are now breaking the silence and coming out with their own harrowing stories of abuse in the wake of the article that appeared in the Natal Witness on Saturday.
In an exclusive interview with a Gazette journalist, the Ladysmith boy who is the subject of the Witness article said that others at the school (Voortrekker) are also being bullied and that this is an ongoing phenomenon that repeats itself year-in, year-out.

After reading the story online, on the Ladysmith Gazette site, other parents with children at Voortrekker High are telling of their experiences with ‘initiation gone wrong’ at the school.

Bullying is claimed to be one of the biggest problems schools face, especially boarding schools around the country. In a recent survey, parents are the ones most criticised for lack of involvement in cases where their children are being bullied.
It is claimed that this cycle of hazing torture has been going on for years and that the prefects who are doing it today were the victims when they started at the school. “Parents should pay close attention to what is happening at their child’s school. This especially applies to Ladysmith, where parents send their kids to schools in other towns and cities,” adds the Mother.
