An armed gang gained access to the Darul Uloom Mosque in Lahore Road this morning (Monday) at about 4am.
The gang tied up the security guard with an extension cord and used duct tape to prevent him from screaming for help, before ransacking the building. The guard was then left locked in a room.
The robbers stole computers, surveillance equipment and other electronic items valued at over R30,000. The security guard managed to free himself and called for help after the criminals had fled.
The K9 Unit responded after the alarm was raised. It is believed that the robbers loaded the goods into a vehicle and made their getaway.
None of the students living on the premises (hostel) were injured during the armed robbery.
