ON THURSDAY evening, Michaelis School held their annual “Bunten Abend”, loosely translated as “Colourful Evening”, a fitting description as the evening is exactly that, bright and colourful.
The Kindergarten got the evening going with a cheerful dance and song, each child excitedly waving a colourful balloon in their hands.
The Grade 2 and 3 pupils were up next with a quirky rendition of Cinderella, named ‘CindYrella.’
Then came the Grade 6 class, who told the history of our beautiful school by means of poetry written by the children. They also delivered an exciting and well choreographed dance. The Grade 1 and 7 pupils performed ‘The Carnival of the Animals.’ This concert was not only entertaining but extremely cute.
The Grade 4 and 5 pupils ended off the evening portraying a bunch of pirates looking for lost treasure. All the learners performed like stars and it was evident that the audience enjoyed every minute.
On Friday evening, the 50th birthday celebrations got off to a start with a Barn Dance. Hay bales, bon fires, bull rides and great music were the order of the night. Much fun was had by all, old and young a like! We would like to thank Stephen and Leonie Friend for organising this exciting evening and also all the parents who gave up their time to help and make this evening a success.
Saturday morning began with a round robin at the tennis club. This is where past and present pupils, as well as parents, could show off their skills on the tennis court. It turned out to be a very enjoyable morning.
Between 2:00pm and 4:00pm the school was open for people to have a look around and reminisce and the day ended with a formal cheese and wine function in the school hall.
We would like to thank Dr Manfred Niebuhr who so kindly jumped in and took charge of this evening.
The guests were entertained by means of our colourful and exciting concerts and our guest speakers, Mr Bodenstein and Mr Reinstorf, both past headmasters of our school. There were also vocal and instrumental pieces played in between.
The guests snacked on a delicious spread of cheeses, freshly baked breads, cold meats, fruits, vegetables and dips while sipping on fine wine.
Past pupils and teachers spent time catching up and sharing special memories.
We would like to thank not only our guest speakers, but also past teachers and pupils, for travelling to Vryheid and joining us for this memorable event.
The weekend came to a close with a special church service commemorating our 50th birthday, as well as the confirmants who got confirmed in our church all those years ago.
The ladies prepared a delicious lunch and all were welcome to attend.
Thank you to all the people who travelled far distances to spend this weekend with us, and also to all the people who worked so hard to make all these events possible. Your input and help are so appreciated and do not go unnoticed.
We wish everyone a well deserved and very happy holiday!
