As a vehicle is one of one’s most prized and expensive possessions, Newcastle SAPS has cautioned vehicle owners to be vigilant when leaving their vehicles in public parking lots.
The police have handled a number of cases where items were stolen without any damage to the windows or doors of the vehicle.
Before leaving, ensure the boot and windows of the vehicle are securely shut and the doors properly locked.
Make use of the services of the car guards and remove any valuable items from car seats. Leaving costly items in plain sight will only further attract potential suspects to the vehicle.
If vehicle owners feel unsafe, they should leave immediately and find a parking space where they feel more secure. A quick observation of the parking lot before returning to the vehicle ensures there is no suspicious activity or people close to the vehicle.
