Weston and Gerytown rugby showdown
The rugby was tough and hard, as two well matched sides battled it out for victory
The Weston rugby players have put away their boots for the term and for the matric players, they have completed the exciting term and their role of playing against teams from many opposing schools.
There are always inter-house and sevens in third term…but for the matrics, their biggest hurdle will be trial exams in that term.
Despite many moments of melancholy, their last matches of the term have many good memories.
In their final matches of the term, Weston hosted Greytown High School.
As usual, the rugby against their opposition was of a really high standard.
Greytown’s initial play did not bode well for Weston as they won both the U14 and U15 games.
All eyes were on the Weston U16 team that has enjoyed a great season coached by Mr Pierre van Rensburg. The team is geared not to give anything away in a match.
The rugby was tough and hard, as two well matched sides battled it out for victory. Weston won the game by 19 -12!
The finale of the day came when the 1st and 2nd teams took on their determined opposition.
The 2nd team game was a real surprise as in the first-half; Weston was the team exerting all the pressure.
The second half was a slightly different picture and while Weston played well they were outscored, and lost the game 13-19 points.
As with any 1st XV game, there are always great expectations.
Weston started well and thanks to the accurate boot of Michael Bauer; early on, Weston was 9 points up.
Greytown put up a very spirited performance but were unable to assert dominance and (like some of the games played recently) one point was the difference between winning and losing.
The final score for Weston was 31 points.
