A mayoral bodyguard shot his wife last night and then himself (he is still alive). She reportedly died at the scene.

It is believed that their two-year-old child was in the house at the time of the shooting.

The bodyguard was seriously injured, having shot himself in the head. He was rushed to hospital in a serious condition by EMRS.

The shooter has been named as Themba Mbhele. He was one of Mayor Vincent Madlala’s bodyguards.

Details are still sketchy and we are waiting for information from the municipality.
