Presentations were made to Umtshezi Municipality during the monthly council meeting held last Wednesday in the council chambers.
Nashua Maluti-Telecommunications gave both a verbal and visual report on some interesting findings made after they examined municipal telephone lines.
After research Nashua found that the municipality has been paying for lines that are not in use, line rental as well as connection to out door extensions.
Nashua has made a request to Telkom to discontinue the unused lines more than a month ago, but no response was given. Councillor Mthembeni Majola asked whether any of the money issued for lines that don’t work would be paid back, sadly Telkom will pay not a cent back, said the Nashua representative.
In closing Nashua made council aware that they can cancel problematic lines free of charge, they added that they offer the lowest call rate, saving the municipality extra costs.
The visual and verbal presentation delivered by Dragon Engineering gave an overview of the company’s profile since new management has taken over in December 2013. Pleasing to Mayor Bongani Dlamini’s ears, it was mentioned that they are doing as much as possible to get youth involved in the National Development Plan.
The verbal presentation by Commissioner Raymond Trollip informed council what the duties of the Commission of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Rights (CRL) were made council aware of an up coming event where all commissioners from the other provinces will attend. The commission mandated its aims to promote and protect the rights of cultural, religious and linguistic communities in support of democracy. In closing Mr Trollip left literature with council to familiarise themselves with pertaining to the Commission.
