Oom Jopie; flying bricks and snapshots
“One of the women ran down the street, then she turned around and threw a brick at me!” exclaimed Oom Jopie. “It would seem they are more scared of the camera.”
Last month, Jopie Schoeman took to the streets with a panga, a vuvuzela, and a mission. He threatened to ‘chop off erections’, in a bid to finally rid the CBD of what he calls, the ‘prostitute plague’.
After two weeks on his crusade, Oom Jopie is undeterred. In the latest development, he has exchanged his weapons for something a bit more hi-tech. A camera.
Instead of getting the chop, patrons of the impromptu ‘red light district’ will now be privy to a candid camera experience they are not likely to forget.

Oom Jopie has now written a letter, which he addressed to the Commissioner of the SAPD, Newcastle. The subject refers to the apparent ‘lack of action against prostitutes’.
The letter also refers to more shocking events. According to Oom Jopie, a man stood on the road side close to La Gratitude old age home on Sunday morning, with his genitals exposed.
“When I asked him what he was doing, he told me he was waiting for the prostitutes,” said Oom Jopie. “I was actually physically sickened by his actions. I felt like throwing up.”
At first, Oom Jopie thought the man was urinating. “But when you urinate, you don’t take out the whole package. You only take out the hose!”
He also lamented the lack of respect the man had for the elderly women in the home. “What if an elderly woman was to walk outside, see this thing, and have a heart attack?” he asked. “It’s the same with the prostitutes. The have no respect for themselves, allowing men to use them like that.”
Oom Jopie will be starting a petition to have something done about the rampant prostitute problem, which he hopes to hand in to the police commissioner in the coming week.
“If I can keep my street corner clean, surely the police can clean the other corners?” he said. “Man alone, I cannot fight this very bad prostitution situation with the hope to bring it to an end.”
