Taxi protest is not over
No barricades are up, but community members have been unofficially warned not to use the taxis
Taxis belonging to the Klipriver Taxi Association are not entering Steadville, with drivers saying they are afraid.
A meeting with the community yesterday (Tuesday) reversed a decision taken over the weekend, and according to latest reports, the taxi protest is back on.

The strike has been on and off since last week. The protest is about a taxi tariff increase which came into effect on July 1. The new tariff of R6.50 sparked outrage among Steadville residents.
Taxis are currently not going into Steadville, but are operating from the Dunlop side entrance to Steadville with heavy police protection. They are picking up people who have chosen to walk to work, and are still charging R6.50.
