Two dead female officers were detectives

The car veered off the roadway and struck a tree

New information just released by police:

On Thursday (yesterday) at 2.30pm, an accident took place on the N3. It is alleged that the driver of a Nissan Tiida travelling between Gauteng and Durban lost control of her vehicle.

The car veered off the roadway and struck a tree.

A 38-year-old police constable was flung from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. A 34-year-old sergeant sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.  She was later pronounced dead.

Both police officers served at the ORS (Durban Harbour) Detective Unit.

Ladysmith detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

The names of the deceased cannot be released pending formal identification.
