Scamsters and con men have been around since mankind started using money, and they always have new ideas to deprive you of your hard-earned cash. Peter Davey, owner of Dundee Cellular, was the victim of a new scheme where up to four people worked together to fraudulently withdraw money from the automatic teller machine he has in his cell phone and video shop.

The alleged fraudsters would come in and withdraw small sums from the machine. They would have to hand over the slips to the staff member behind the counter in order to get their cash they have just withdrawn. In this instance they drew R1, did not take it, and went out again,with the two slips.

They then process a counterfeit slip, and comes back to hand it over to the assistant. Each time it would be a different person. They did manage to get away with an undisclosed amount of money, the first time, but they were rumbled by eagle-eyed Samantha, our previous Star of the Week, when she saw that there was a problem with the sequence numbers on the fraudulent slip that was handed to her for cash.

She refused to hand over the money, and when they tried to get the counter slip cash slips from her, she also thwarted this attempt. The conman then said something about going to talk with his wife, and left in a hurry when he was blocked.
They were driving a dolphin-shaped red BMW. The police are investigating.
