A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he and two alleged accomplices attacked a couple in Ezakheni.
Sizwe Naction Buthelezi, together with two friends, robbed a couple in Ezakheni C-Section on March 21, 2012.
The three allegedly approached the couple, who were walking along the roadway at about 9pm.
A gun was pointed at the man and he was robbed of his clothing, as well as his sandals and cell-phone.
He was bound and the couple were taken to a dark area, where the woman was raped in the presence of the man. The three suspects were arrested, but two of them were subsequently acquitted of the charges.
However, Buthelezi was linked to the scene by DNA evidence. The 24-year-old from Ezakheni was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, with an additional 15 years for robbery, in the Ladysmith Regional Court.
The investigating officer in the case was Sergeant Shilutu from Ezakheni Detective Services.
