Two muti sheep found under bridge

One of the sheep was stuck but still alive in the river under the bridge, behind 5SAI military base

A strange phenomenon that only seems to occur in Ladysmith has reared its head again. The phenomenon being referred to is ‘muti sheep’, with another two being found yesterday morning (Friday) in the Klip River under a bridge on the R103.

One of the poor creatures was already dead when a passerby walking along the R103 stumbled upon the unusual sight. Both animals had white sheets tied around them, with packets containing various items hanging from the material. The items in the packets are usually related to a behaviour (such as alcoholism or gambling) that a person wants to be rid of. One of the sheep was stuck but still alive in the river under the bridge, behind 5SAI military base. The other was dead and lying close by. The latter looked as if it had been dead for a couple of days.

It is believed that the sheep were thrown off the bridge into the river below, resulting in the death of one of the animals.

Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) workers were called out, and managed to get the living sheep out of the river where it was stuck.

The sheep that was rescued was impounded by Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality.
