Arrests and recoveries in massive crime operation

The operation, which began on Friday evening and ended on Sunday morning, was aimed at addressing murder cases and trio crimes in the area.

Ezakheni police held a massive crime prevention operation over the weekend and made 22 arrests as a result.

For the duration of the operation, Ezakheni police were assisted by officers from Ekuvukeni, Ladysmith, Elandslaagte, Bergville, Ladysmith K9, Ladysmith Crime Intelligence, Ladysmith Cluster office and Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT).

22 arrests were made for cases related to murder, rape, robbery, assault, housebreaking and theft, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of a presumably stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, malicious damage to property, urinating in public, driving while under the influence of liquor, drinking in public, handling a firearm while under the influence of liquor, failing to comply with the conditions of a liquor licence, and failure to brand livestock.

In addition, five knives were seized, along with two drums of copper wire, three firearms, several rounds of ammunition, housebreaking implements, cell-phone starter packs, a cell-phone and liquor.

The operation was highly successful and more activities of this nature are planned for the future in Ezakheni, as well as other police stations in the Ladysmith Cluster.
