Two housebreaking suspects were arrested on Monday by quick-acting police responding to a burglary complaint in Azalea Drive.
It was about 5pm when Ladysmith police received the call. On arrival at the scene, police officers were met by an individual who alleged that a house in the area had been broken into.
The person claimed to be acting on behalf of an absent neighbour.
The allegation proved to be true. Officers from the Community Service Centre (CSC) set to work obtaining information and tracing the culprits. It was not long before they located both suspects.
The two co-operated with police and led them to another premises where stolen goods were recovered.
The recovered items, valued at about R13,000, included a fridge, bed, cutlery, a coffee table and a wheelbarrow.
The two suspects, aged 18 and 22, were arrested and will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court soon. They face charges of housebreaking and theft.
The two police officers responsible for the arrests are Warrant Officer BS Magasela and Constable MP Nkomonde. They have been commended for their hard work and dedication by the acting station commander, Colonel VJ Cele.
