Council sacks Brijraj

Council is still paying the salary of former Municipal Manager Thabani Biyela, who was re-suspended in April

Council has terminated the contract of acting Municipal Manager Adv R Brijraj. Mark Donaldson, who is acting Technical Services Manager, is now also acting Municipal Manager.
It is known that since he was assaulted outside the municipality in December last year by a group of municipal workers, Adv Brijraj has been reluctant to work in the building.

No one has been charged criminally with the assault that happened in public and was witnessed by municipal employees from their office windows.
Council had arranged for Adv Brijraj to work from the Umzinyathi offices, but it appears as if the arrangement did not work out as he preferred to be at his home in Scottborough and phone into the office. Council appears to have lost patience, and terminated his month-to-month contract. This was confirmed unofficially by Mayor Thulani Mahaye. Adv Brijraj was not available for comment.

Council is still paying the salary of former Municipal Manager Thabani Biyela, who was re-suspended in April. Last week Council advertised the positions of Corporate Services Manager, Technical Services Manager and Financial Manager in both the Courier and Sunday Times.
It is also noted the advertised salaries for these posts have been significantly slashed to a maximum of R647 280, which is about R300 000 less than was paid to the previous incumbents. Apparently this is in line with new local government legislation.
