Councillor injured in shooting

Ward eight councillor Zwela Zwane was travelling from home with a passenger when an occupant from a passing vehicle opened fire on Mr Zwane's car

Another Umtshezi Municipality Councillor narrowly escaped death after he was shot at on Friday evening.
Ward eight councillor Zwela Zwane was travelling from home with a passenger when an occupant from a passing vehicle opened fire on Mr Zwane’s car.
The councillor sustained multiple gunshot wounds on his head and hand.
The passenger was also injured and both men have been hospitalised for serious injuries.
Commenting on this, Umtshezi Municipality Mayor Bongani Dlamini said that while he cannot speculate about the motive behind the shooting, tensions between two Amakhosi in Vumbu and the political intolerance in Umtshezi came to mind.
“We were not expecting this, especially after so many interventions, which included the Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department. We will leave it to the police to investigate. We wish both men a speedy recovery,” said Mr Dlamini.
