Outstanding Grade 9 athlete Bophelo Seoe, won the U15 - 100m, 200 m and long jump in record times and distance and set up three new records

Fleet footed athletes
College Athletes recently participated in the Kingsway High School Invitational Meeting. Thirteen schools from KwaZulu-Natal and one team from Gauteng competed at the meeting. Once again, Treverton track and field athletes did exceptionally well; achieving 17 first places; 11-second places; 8 third places, and breaking five records.
Outstanding Grade 9 athlete Bophelo Seoe, won the U15 – 100m, 200 m and long jump in record times and distance and set up three new records.
The other winners were Eugh Nyakabau for Open long jump and triple jump, Oscar Haynes won U16 shotput, Siboniso Ndlovu U15 discus, and Marco Marais won both the Open discus and shotput. Other field winners were Sasha Botha U16 javelin, Travis van der Westhuyzen U14 javelin, Grace Durham U14 discus and Brooke Cunha-Johnson U15 javelin. The Treverton relay teams also won three events; the girls’ open 4 x 100m relay, the boys’ open 4 x 100m relay, and the girls’ U15 4 x 100m relay.
Boys’ Athletics captain Marco Marais was awarded the prize for best boys sprinter of the day setting a personal best of 11.01 seconds in the open boys’ 100 m. The girls’ captain Ayanda Tshuma, obtained three second places respectively in the 100 m, 200 m and the high jump.
Hockey Achievers
Grade 11 Jeanne Botha who was a member of the U18A Natal Inland hockey team to play South African Hockey tournament at Kearsney College during the holidays was chosen to play in an U17 invitation side against a touring Australian U17 National team. Although they lost the match, it provided the South African girls with valuable experience. Treverton’s Kate Armitage was also a member of the Natal Inland U18A team; the Inland team were runners-up at the tournament.
Multi-talented Bophelo Seoe participated in the U16 National tournament in Pietermaritzburg as a member of the Natal Inland team. The team finished 5th overall out of 24-teams.
Great Start to Soccer Season
After winning the Midlands’ League last year the girls’ first soccer team had a reputation to maintain and the start of the season saw them determined to do so!!
At the beginning of August the girls 1st team departed for a tour of the South Coast.
They played their first game against Scottburgh and from the outset; the Treverton girls were in control and won with an impressive six-goals to one. Goals came from Thembeni Mthethwa (3), Sne Gumede (2), and Emily Yeo (1). Player of the Match was Natasha Metior for her excellent defence.
Their next match was against Creston College and Treverton enjoyed another victory, 3 goals to 1. Once again, Thembeni Mthethwa showed her ability by scoring 2 goals and Faye Bure added a goal to the final winning score. Player of the Match was Emily Webster after saving countless attempts as well as 2 penalties!
The boys’ teams also opened their season with excellent wins. Also on the South Coast they played three matches against Scottburgh and Creston College, with impressive wins in all three games; 2-0, 2-1 and 2-0 respectively. They also played their neighbouring school and arch-rivals Weston, again achieving victories, with the first team winning 1-0, and the juniors triumphantly scored 5-0.
The STIHL Bundu Bash
This weekend the sports action will be at Treverton College, when competitors from all over KZN and beyond, will take part in the annual Bundu Bash. There is a range of events for participants to choose from, according to the level of their abilities and stamina.
The Chainsaw and Dustbuster events allow a choice for the participants; they can be entered individually or in teams of two (one runner, one cyclist and both complete adventure activity). If a person wishes to enter as an individual, they have to complete the run, the cycle and the adventure activity.
The event will take place over farm roads, animal tracks and a single track. The Chainsaw event takes place over 25 kms, the Dustbuster covers 12 kms and there is a 10 km Trail run and a 4 km Amble–Fun walk. There is an event for all ages. The Bundu Buddies is for competitors nine-years and under and is a supervised event.
