An officer opened fire after a man tried to attack him with a knife during an attempted housebreaking on Saturday evening. An alarm was activated at a business premises in Forbes Street, once the security company and manager of the business arrived on the crime scene, they discovered noises coming from the building.
Police were called and upon their arrival at the scene, the suspect fled.
He was chased by police and during the incident the suspect is alleged to have tried to attack a chasing police officer.
The police officer fired a shot at the suspect wounding him.
The suspect was arrested and is under police guard at hospital. A knife was recovered.
The suspect faces charges of attempted housebreaking, attempted murder and possession of a dangerous weapon.
